Brotherhood Crusade President and CEO Charisse Bremond Weaver Gives Heartfelt Reaction on George Floyd Memorial and Protests Around the City of Los Angeles with ABC 7 Live News
Brotherhood Crusade President and CEO, Charisse Bremond Weaver gave her insights on the mood of African American citizens following yesterday’s memorial service for George Floyd. She weighed in on the week-long protests against police brutality and injustice in the City of Los Angeles and around the country.
In an intervie w with ABC 7 Live News , Br emond Weaver said, “The most powerful moment was standing in silence for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, this is how long it took for the murder of George Floyd.” She continued, “There have been too many George Floyds and this incident has elevated a collective awareness of the inequities, the inequality and systemic racism that has plagued this country for too long.”
According to Brotherhood Crusade, a 51 year old non-profit institution that provides programs and services for at risk and under-served populations in the Los Angeles community, data shows that African Americans are grossly impacted by not only COVID-19, but the tentacles of this debilitating disease that effects our community economically, educationally and socially which was already burdened before the pandemic.
Bremond Weaver said, “In order to curtail and mitigate the systemic racism that has been perpetuated in this country, everyone needs to step up, not just government, but corporations, foundations and people of good will. We must invest in our youth, community programs and create a humanitarian commission that directly impacts officers that break the law and do not have the best interest of our community.”
