The Brotherhood Crusade Youth Development Program is a Comprehensive, Coordinated, Evidence and Research-Based strategy designed to address the unmet needs of every South Los Angeles youth, their families, and the people within their circle of influence. The program serves as the cornerstone of the Brotherhood Crusade 10-Year Community Development Plan and combines several stand-alone programs to create a comprehensive, coordinated community-wide approach. Preliminary elements of the Program were initiated in September of 2007. However, the plan is expected to be launched in its entirety in January of 2010. Objectives There are five primary objectives of the Youth Development Program: - Develop an individual Youth Development Plan (YDP) for every South Los Angeles youth. The plan should identify and provide guidance to address each child’s unmet needs based on the 16 Risk Factors most often associated with marginalized communities.
- Establish a collaborative network of reputable, well?respected, highly qualified service providers with experience and demonstrated success in addressing these unmet needs.
- Coordinate the delivery of services, activities of service providers, recruitment of youth, evaluation and monitoring efforts, reporting, and public education.
- Locate Family Resource Centers (FRCs) providing comprehensive, full-service programs, first at schools and parks, then in other community facilities, until there are FRC’s located within a 1 mile radius of every South Los Angeles resident.
- Ensure youth have access to and from safe haven facilities and alternatives that provide positive environments, encourage pro-social relationships, and promote civic pride.
